Learning a Language
Learning a language can be extremely tedious, here are tips on the quickest ways to learn.
Learning a language is a fantastic thing to do. It can help you in almost every aspect of life, including understanding English better, improving your thinking techniques and it even looks great on a resume. However, as all language learners know, it can be difficult and downright boring at times.
The first thing you should do is find a teacher. It really is so important to join a class as you will learn so much more with a teacher than you ever could at home. However, if you really object to this, choose a popular language such as French, German or Spanish that will have lots of resources available to help you.
If you’re just starting out, try checking About.com, they have whole sections on each languages which have lessons for all levels. If About doesn’t have what you’re looking for, try googling your language. Many free sites have been set up to aid people in learning a language.
Once you’ve progressed a bit, you can try these ideas:
Immerse yourself in the language. Just attending an hour class once a week isn’t going to be enough to learn a language quickly. Try to read, listen and write in the language as often as possible. For example, find a radio station in your language. While you might not be able to understand what is being said at the beginning, as you get better it will become a lot easier. Try to hire out a movie or find a TV show in that language. When you’re just starting out, children’s shows might be a bit easier to understand.
Find a penpal. Writing to someone regularly can be really beneficial. Especially as you can see exactly how a person who actually speaks that language writes. Sometimes in classes the language might be a bit outdated. Another idea is to find a person who wishes to learn English. You can write to them in the language you’re trying to learn and they can help you with any mistakes. Then, they can write to you in English and you can help them in return.
Try borrowing a book in that language. Sit down with your dictionary and slowly work your way through. Look up and write down the meanings of any words you don’t understand. It may be slow work at first, but you will improve very quickly.
Try to visit a country that speaks the language if possible. It is amazing how much you can improve in such a short time if you are completely immersed in the language.
Remember the benefits of learning to speak another language and don’t give up, even when it gets hard!

A very good article. I moved to a foreign country when I was a teenager and since then have no problem with learning new languages. But I do find that going to the country which speaks the language is very very important. You are forced to learn the language then.

Very true! Language is used for socializing and exchange message. So the best way to learn it is by socializing and exchange message with native speakers.
