Office Jargons

All of us would have come across these terms in our workplace. Sometimes I wonder why we use such words instead of plain English. Over use of these terms have resulted in people using these terms to appear knowledgeable. In many situations, these terms are used totally out of context making it even more hilarious and sometimes irritating.

1.       Touch base – Let us touch base! Why don’t we say let us meet up and discuss?

2.       Align  – One of the most misused words, often used to be politically correct. This word can mean either agree or disagree

3.       Loop back – What is the loop about? Why don’t we just follow-up and close the action?

4.       Challenge – There are no problems or issues anymore, everything is a challenge

5.       Low hanging fruit – Complicated term for something that can be done very easily

6.       Paradigm shift – We have completely shifted the paradigm of business speak

7.       Leverage – Another pet hate

8.       Talk offline – How can two people talk ‘offline’?

9.       Helicopter view – Why do we need helicopters in the office?

10.   Out of box – This one takes the cake. Almost always used out of context
