Pronunciations

Don’t even attempt to try to pronounce place names/street names etc until you have heard someone else say them. 9 times out of 10 your guess will be wrong, to your acute embarrassment. We have all heard the “Lugabaruga” story of Americans trying to say Loughborough right? Well it’s the same here when you attempt Woollomoolo, or Macquarie, or Bourke or Wynyard, or Coogee, Geelong, the list goes on – trust me they all sound nothing like you would think. So just listen and learn. There is no logic.
One of my criteria was to move somewhere I could pronounce. I personally have no problem pronouncing where I live, sadly the Aussies have never heard of it until I spell it out…..
