Social Discourse
Some of the makings of a verbal discussion.
Social discourse or the ability to present oneself in public and be able to express his intent or verbalize it or talk about it the same time, is what keeps people communicating with the spoken word. Naturally I am referring to the world outside sign language and the use of pictographs just for the sake of simplicity. Images, signs and data files are also used to supplant that innate ability to exchange viewpoints, detract attention and offer feedback.
A person could be of any stature and quite frankly that is what makes the discourse so appealing across the social scale; one does not have to have any qualifications to do it.In fact some people hone it so well that they are almost as convincing as the people who are genuinely informed of certain issues.
I like to look up to the barber who almost acted as a sort of confessional and perhaps still does for the guy who has no other verbal outlet outside his own milieu. The person looks up to the barber as someone who is hardly challenging, he has his trade, which is to cut hair and that is all there is to that.
If I want to i can start with the job market to my barber and finish talking to my client about the meaning to life if I wanted to. The fact is he even if he does not have an opinion to state on the matter at least he will listen attentively and that too is a given in social discourse because without a listener, who would be able to offer an honest rebuttal. This does not mean that the argument is going to be understood the same way with people of different nationalities or ethnicities.
I will use the eating of seal hearts as an example talking about doing it is a sign of respect to a certain native people but it brings nausea to other people who just think of the possibility of doing that to the animal. One presumes that the will to discuss this or stay away from the subject will common among all spoken languages
