Swear Off Profanity: Improve Yourself

Profanity is part of our world, whether we like it or not. We can choose to accept it, be a part of it, or do something to try to stop it or just ignore it. You decide.

There is a widespread epidemic of colorful words that we have adapted into our vocabulary, which is a large part, of how we communicate with each other described as; profanity, swearing, cursing, four-letter words, foul language, cuss words, potty-talk and bad vulgar words.

Profanity is used everywhere, on TV, radio and in the movies to shock and entertain us.  We laugh at comedians, we think tough people are cool when they swear, and we call it freedom of speech.  We even think it is humorous and applaud when a President of the United States says a cuss word.

Foul language has also become such a common thing that all we have to do is use the slang word or the abbreviation of the first letter to get the meaning across and everyone knows what it really means.

All profane language has a sharp, cutting or demeaning sound and gives the user a false sense of power, toughness that only disrespects, hurts, puts down the other person and causes anger, hate and resentment.

There is not one single person on this earth that does not know using profanity is rude, impolite and wrong because inside all of us, we know right from wrong, and that it is against our nature to hurt another human being, period.

The problem

It can be easy to get influenced by what is around us and persuaded to follow the latest trends of ‘potty-talk’ so, in a society made up mostly of followers rather than leaders, we should take a step back and analyze where we personally stand on this issue.

The problem with using profanity is that it suggests a lack of self-control, good taste, weakness and a limited vocabulary not to mention that it makes the user look less attractive.

Our children are following parent’s examples, listening to music and watching movies filled with vulgar words, and now we have a big problem with young children at home and in schools using foul language.

Another problem with using profanity is that it can become a habit and like any habit will take an effort to quit.  There are many ways to stop a habit, and you can find one that helps you.

My suggestion is that you simply challenge yourself one day at a time to be more aware of how you express yourself, deal with anger and cope with stress.  Educate yourself with better words that will help you express yourself and help you look and sound more intelligent.

Winning at a simple challenge will improve yourself-esteem, help you become more confident and look attractive.  Everyone can win at this challenge.

The solution

There are numerous, “stop profanity” websites, petitions, and school organizations that are trying to put a stop to profanity.  Each group recognizes that profanity does not have a place in our society and needs to stop.

All people everywhere will agree and say that the only true solution to the end of profanity will begin with everyone doing their own part by just, “swearing off profanity”.
