Answer: The clue method.

The salesman who speaks the language of this prospective customer has such an enormous advantage over his competitor who does not know that there can hardly be any doubt about the comparative success of their respective business trips.

What is the easiest way to learn a foreign language?

Answer: The clue method.

For example, if you want to learn that the French word jeu means game. You can do it simply by thinking of joy as a link which is similar in sound of French word jeu and associate by thinking of getting joy out of playing a game. This kind of thinking is sufficient to recall the foreign word whenever we need it. Moreover, experience show that after while the linking word will vanish from our mind and the association between the French and the English word will become so stronger that we shall recall the other directly and without the help of linking words.

Example 1:

Latin word poena means punishment.

Step 1: Similar sounding word for peon.

Step 2: Connection peon got punishment for his mischief.

Example 2:

The French word largare means railway station.

We can learn it by simple thinking of line guard, which is similar in sound of lagare. Now link it to the meaning by thinking a line guard of railway station.

Example 3:

Spanish word el libro means book.

Step 1: A similar sounding word for el libro could be library.

Step 2: Connecting the word library with the actual meaning book by thinking library is a collection of books in organized manner for sharing.

Useful tips. I think this method helped me a bit when I was learning Latin at school, but I still struggled with tenses etc.

True. I do use that. We actually learnt that to help with spelling in our native language at school. We learnt the root words and root lanuages of the words we had to study and that way it became easier to spell or figure out the meanings of words we had never met before.
