The English Sentence Word Order Esl Kids Game
Teach your kids to speak English fluently.
Games and activities should be part of your teaching curriculum especially if you teach younger kids. If kids feel that they’re playing a game rather than in a serious lesson then they’re far more likely to learn. Coupled with the fact that most small children only have a short concentration span teaching English using games and activities will not only help you succeed as a teacher, it’ll also make you a popular one! And that can’t be bad now can it?
One of my favorite ESL classroom games I’m going to share with you was developed by myself. It was really a way to get more mileage out of my teaching materials and as a fun activity for revision of previously taught lesson materials. I hope you like it!
The sentence word order ESL game
This deals with word order and sentence construction, it’s also a cunning way to get the students talking.
Procedure:
Go through any previous lessons that you’ve taught and pick out all relevant sentences and English phrases. For example your previous lesson could have been directions. Find the expressions that you taught the students. Eg… GO STRAIGHT ON THEN STOP, TURN LEFT AT THE CROSSROADS, AT THE LIGHTS TURN RIGHT AND THEN GO STRAIGHT ON.
Now split the students into two teams of your choice. And explain to them that you’re going to call our some phrases. The phrases need to be put in the correct order and the first team to call out the phrase in the correct order gets a point for their team.
How to play
Teacher: Stop on straight go then!
Student: Go straight on then stop!
Teacher: Correct team B 1 point!
It’s worth noting that the students should be encouraged to write down the phrase that the teacher says, then they can work in teams to rearrange it on paper before they call it out. http://esljobs4teachers.com or http://thailanddelights.blogspot.com.
