The History of the Word OK
Use of the term dates back to the late 19th century.
Around the 1880s, Americans had already developed a type of slang that people used. One of which was Oll Korect. Oll Korect stood for All Correct. When Martin Van Buren and William Henry Harrison ran against each other in the 1840 Presidential election, the abbreviation was founded.
Martin Van Buren was nicknamed “Old Kinderhook,” because he he used to live in Kinderhook, New York. One of Martin Van Buren’s slogans was, “Vote for OK because he is oll korect!”
