The Word is Bud!

The slaughter of the English Language, that bombards us, daily, hurts my ears.  I know that at times I can be a little anal, about words, but I love them and hope that others develop respect for them, as well. Beside, there is a possibility that my mother will thump me on the head, from Heaven.

Now I’m not saying that in a casual setting, with your friends, or family, you should examine your sentence structure, or feel compelled to closely watch, which readily accepted word shouldn’t be used. (However, that may lead to a more casual use of words) What I am saying is the careless attitude toward inappropriate use of words, by Televised News Reports, Radio Reports, or Elected Officials,  influences my children and grandchildren to believe the word, phrase, or usage is correct.

I find this very unacceptable. How can I correct them, when I hear the errors from their sweet mouths?  When I correct them, and they look at me with  that ultra-blank look. You know the look, if you are a parent. That look that says, “You poor thing, you are Old, and even though I love you, you are talking through your Butt.

BUTT, that’s the word.  That’s the word that’s poorly used. I can not tell you how many times I’ve been subjected to, “It has to be nipped in the BUTT.”  “He nipped it in the BUTT.”  ( Does that make them, BUTT NIPPERS?)

STOP, PLEASE. The appropriate phrase in America is, “NIPPED IT IN THE BUD.” Now think about it. See the visual? Do you see the actions of Nipping in the BUTT? You have to realize that this is not the view, that anyone wants to promote.

Now, visualize the phrase, “Nip it in the BUD.” What do you see? You see someone pinching, from a rose bush, or any other flowering plant, a BUD. The reason for this is to  Prevent overgrowth, or Encouraging the plant to grow in a particular direction. (That’s why the nipping is done)

Can we please use the accepted phrase or word. I need the backing of the English speaking population, so I have some backing and support, when I correct the offspring in my family.
