What is The Importance of Learning a Second Language?

Learning a second language is a major trend nowadays as the global market.

Learning a second language is a major trend nowadays as the global market becomes narrower and smaller. Due to the advent of modern technologies and information, the exchanging of ideas of different countries expands rapidly and inevitably. As the world market continues to flourish, learning a second language catches the attention among young professionals, retirees and different facets of people. Now the question is “What is the importance of learning a second language? Why is it that our official language does not seem to be supportive about its fecundity? These are the questions that still embedded to my mind since the time I embraced the ideology of education.

It is not a blind item that many countries still progresses using their first language yet these countries are ought to be change their perception about language as they gave their way to tie up with this idea. Having a second language is a sort of advantage in any marketplace in the world. On my own viewpoint, learning L2 is not all about learning a language itself yet we must also try to learn their culture. Why is it that we are not still proficient in English? The answer is the culture of language has left behind and our learning focused only on the linguistic variable that language has. Even in myself I could not compare my writings on those of the article. It is definitely different. The article gives some information on what kind of resources in learning a second language. To answer directly, the most effective is immersion because you have the chance to learn their language as well as their culture. Traditional teaching, on my own opinion, does not guarantee that you will learn a lot because the teachers doesn’t have the culture that will greatly affects the transformation of information to the learners. Even the teachers speak their native tongue when they are not in school especially the students. Internet, on the other hand, is not achievable by most of the L2 learners. Aside of its availability, even you watch how many times of a certain videos about language, still you are not confident enough by the time you will used it on the spot. The point is we must not be idealistic, we must see the unseen realty that is something to ponder.
