Why Learning Chinese is So Hard
Chinese is the hardest language to read and write. Here’s why.
Ever want to learn a language in a very short amount of time and easily? Well then don’t learn Chinese. Fine. Speaking Chinese isn’t very difficult and doesn’t have all these weird pronunciations. But, reading and writing Chinese is the hardest language in the world. Heres why I and many, many others think that. The main reason is, every single Chinese word is a different character, and theres over 47,035 characters! Thats 47,035 entirely different words to memorize. Fine, some words are a little similar, but having all these parts of words and all those other parts makes it even more confusing to find out what word you need. Second of all, theres no phonics at all for Chinese. Well, if theres a word that you don’t know, then you just can’t read it then. Third of all, names are near impossible to remember! Lots of Chinese characters are only used once or twice in a name of a random town. Names of places are always a makeup of parts of different characters. Being able to remember the character is hard enough, but then you get it confused with another character because the words are written so similar. Fourth of all, Chinese words and pronunciations are so similar. Even thought there are lots of different parts of Chinese characters, lots of them share similar parts. Half of this word is the same as half of that word. You may say that makes it easier but with 47,035 characters, it will make it insanely confusing. Also there are different words for different grammar cases that sound exactly the same. For example, the word the, there is 3 different ways to write it. One for a verb, one for a pronoun, and one for a noun. Besides, lots and lots of Chinese words are written and spoken so similarly that it makes it really hard to understand. Out of all the languages in the world, Chinese is the hardest to read and write. No one can know all the Chinese words because they are always making more because they need names for new towns and roads. Bottom line: Chinese is hard
