Word Abbreviations: Learning the Online Language
In our modern-day society, more and more of us seem to be using word abbreviations in place of actual words, especially when we’re texting on our cell phones and blackberries. But what do these weird three-letter acronyms actually mean? Let’s find out, shall we?
You may often find your kids typing words in online chat rooms that are unknown to you – words like “LOL” and “BRB.” What do these words actually mean? Well, they’re abbreviations of much longer words. For example, “LOL” actually means “Laughing Out Loud.” Who came up with the idea of word abbreviations such as these? I’m not sure, but they seem to be a big hit with teenagers. As such, I’ve compiled a complete list of all the word abbreviations that currently exist as of 2008, displayed alphabetically.
