10 Dumbest Laws in Canada
The most ridiculous laws that Canada ever came up with and put into the books. These are real laws which all exist here in Canada to this day.
Have you ever watched any of those crime shows on television and seen many countries have way different laws then our own? Well this got me thinking about my own country “Canada” and some of the dumb laws we have here and I’d like to share some of them with all of you.
- In Nova Scotia a person is not allowed to water their grass when it’s raining. Not like someone would do this, but it’s against the law in Nova Scotia!
- In Cobourg, Ontario if you have a water trough in your front yard, it must be filled by 5:00am!
- In Guelph, Ontario, the city is classified as a no pee zone!
- In Toronto, Ontario, where I lived, it’s illegal to drag a dead horse down Younge St on a Sunday!
- In Montreal, Ontario you are not allowed to wash your car in the street or park your car in a way that it blocks your own driveway!
- In Ottawa, Ontario you are not allowed to eat ice cream on Bank St on a Sunday!
- In Beaconsfield, Canada it’s considered an offense to have more than two colours on your house; and you are not allowed to own a log cabin!
- In Uxbridge, Ontario it’s illegal to have an internet connection faster than 56k!
- In Kanata, Ontario, believe this, it’s illegal to have a clothes line in your back yard!
- Finally, in Oshawa, Ontario it’s illegal to climb trees!
Some laws are so worthless they are not even worth the time or effort to try and even enforce. Check out some of your local dumb laws and you’ll be surprised in what you might find is illegal where ever you might live.

Firstly, Montreal is not in Ontario – it’s in Quebec.
Secondly, there is no such thing as “the most DUMBEST laws” – laws can be the most dumb or the dumbest, but not both at the same time.
And yes, Canada rules, because in Ottawa, Ontario, it is legal for a woman to go shirtless in any place where a man can go shirtless. Not so practical in winter, but very nice in the summer.

Number 8 “Canada” has it right, I have a Reader’s Digest book of strange stories and amazing facts of America’s past. In it is the most ridiculous laws that are still on the books, such as; “It is a crime to eat in a place that is on fire in Chicago.” and “It is a crime to throw an onion in Princeton, Tex, or carry an ice cream cone in your pocket in Lexington, Ky.” etc. etc. Who in the world made up all these insane laws? But you notice that there are stupid laws even today. In Dayton Ohio last year, a man was convicted of a sex crime, for having sex with a picnic table. This is no joke. I think some of our law makers are candidates for the funny farm.

Haha I agree, the US prolly has the dumbest laws ever. Canada may he
Perdy bad, but the US is worse.
• In Texas, it’s illegal to paint Someone elses cow…
• in Kentucky, it’s illegal to carry ice-cream in your back pocket…
• In Ohio, it’s illegal to sell cornflakes on Sunday…
• In Florida, it’s illegal to sing in public while wearing a swimsuit…
• In Idaho, it’s illegal NOT to smile…
There’s tons more but I think you get the point.

I was working in an RCMP detachment office when this young guy walked in and asked for a voucher for a room and breakfast. I told him that we don’t issue those kinds of vouchers, but when I checked there was a transient law on the books in Saskatchewan since the early 30’s which allowed for such a claim. So, I called the hotel and told them to give him a room and breakfast – the bill to be sent to us. This happened in 1970, and I doubt the law has been repealed. Maybe some of the laws that are still on the books aren’t so dumb after all – you might want to do a little more research and maybe save yourself some money.

Laws are put in place just for money, they don’t care about you going to jail(maybe if u don’t pay it that is).I was recently stopped by police in toronto ontario with NO insurance on my car, false licence plates & NO ownership for the vehicle.I was given 3 tickets & was still allowed to leave with the car.On court day i was allowed to plead guilty to one offense(the lesser offense mind you) & was charged 60 dollars to be paid in 6 months.true story

I live in Oshawa, and it is ONLY illegal to climb trees on city property. You can climb your own of course. (Used to do it every spring to harvest cherries, apples and pears) They put that law into place so that people wouldn’t damage city property. I wonder what other ones are not true or embellished. :s

The no-tree-climbing thing applies only to trees on city property.
Oshawa, Ontario, passed a bylaw (78-2008, “being a by-law respecting the protection and maintenance of trees on City property…” (http://www.oshawa.ca/documents/Trees.pdf):
8.2 No person shall injure or destroy a tree or any part of a tree located on municipal property
8.3 No person shall interfere with a tree or part of a tree located on municipal property, including but not limited to attaching, affixing or placing upon in any manner any object or thing to a tree or part of a tree, and climbing the tree.
So it is illegal to build treehouses, nail handbills, or climb trees on city property in Oshawa, for at least two reasons
1. protect the trees from damage
2. reduce litter from handbills etc.
I don’t think those reasons are all that dumb.
Besices, environmentalists should rejoice that in at least one city, a bylaw exists that protects the trees on public property.
