A King Who Never Ruled

His Political Titanic helplessly, effortlessly and ‘willingly’ came tumbling down and kissed the bosom of a cruel, stormy and unkind political sea the other day. I did the horrifying watching with disbelief, and when the hard reality dawned that his third attempt to become our Head of State had hit the wall head-on, I had no otherwise…and so were many others outside there!

A King Who Never Ruled

Raila Amollo Odinga is retiring sooner than most of us would have loved…well, the majority had had their say, now they must have their way too!

This is no doubt an enigma of Kenyan Post Independence Politics, a much taunted reformist, a nationalist and a above all an ideal Kenyan. It will go down in the writings of History that Raila Amollo Odinga is the only Politician who chose ‘peace’ over a post of the top most job in the disputed elections of 2007 that culminated into ugly tribal and ethnic confrontations.

By accepting to share a government with Retiring President Mwai Emilio Kibaki, he not only demonstrated nationalism but also exhibited an exceptional aura that many a politician will dare not ever dream of!

This Years General Election were largely free and fair and the truth of the matter is, my hero was never made to prepare himself a forehand psychologically of an imminent ‘landslide’ loss to ‘an upcoming’ bunch of politicians he had helped coached and propel  into the arena of Kenyan ‘dirty’ politics!

I.E.B.C did a commendable job, no doubt about that: my hero’s inevitable gesture of disputing the elections was forthcoming from day one and those in the know can excuse him…it is not that easy to accept a defeat from a ‘presumed’ underdog moreover, when your confidence is soaring high and in the brink of overflowing, right?

Who could have imagined that he would have bowed down in honour of the Supreme Court Verdict? Of course very few of us! But he just did exactly that: honoured the verdict and further congratulated Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and his ‘triumphant’ battalion and even wished them the very best!

My point is, Raila has time and again demonstrated that he is devoid of ‘exaggerated love o for self’, that he is not tribal (he said Kibaki Tosha in 2002), he is a reformist, (backed the Kenyan Constitution 2010), and a horde of other notable ‘nationalistic’ achievements. He has no match and his record will hardly be broken!

Long Live Raila Amollo Odinga!!!
