An Unfair Legal System
Why do violent criminals get released early?

On the 4th of July in 2003 I was violently attacked and almost raped by a man that I didn’t even know. He was drunk and high on crystal meth. His name is James Earl Lee. ( I feel the need to include his name) I was pregnant with my son and came extremely close to dying that night.
I was walking one night down the highway with my friend on our way to another persons house. We encountered a man and he asked us to party with him. My friend and me declined and he started making advances and then touched me in perverted ways. I protected myself by kicking him in between the legs. He then chased me down and grabbed my hair and slammed me into the pavement. I don’t remember anything after that so my friend had to fill the police and me in. After that he drug me across the road and went behind some used for sale vehicles and tried to rape me. My friend tried to pull him off and he threw her down and kicked her in the face a bunch of times and then decided to do the same to me. After that he decided to run away from the scene in order to avoid the policing finding about this violent crime. My friend wrapped a jacket around my severely bloody beaten head and face to try and stop the bleeding. She somehow got me to walk to a gas station to get help. I was delirious and had no idea what had just happened. When we got to the gas station my friend said I asked her why there was blood on her head and she realized that I must have lost my memory. I couldn’t even remember much to give a police statement.
I went to the local hospital where I almost died because of a brain bleed. They had to transport me by helicopter to a different hospital with more experienced doctors. I spent two weeks it the hospital. When I got out of the hospital I was in pain for two months. I now have vision loss (I cant see well in the dark and the sunlight makes my eyes hurt), loss of smell, problems with stuttering, problems with memory and severe headaches.
He plead not guilty and we had to do a jury trial. The trial continued for a long time and 9 months after starting the trial he was found guilty. He got 2 counts of aggravated assault and 1 count of aggravated kidnapping. He was sentenced to a life sentence. He filed for parole and gets out in the year 2013.
What angers me is I almost died as well as my unborn child and he is getting released way early. He still doesnt admit to the crime and has never said sorry. The only terms of his parole is not to have any contact with me. That is very unfair knowing he will be around town free and Ill have to be watching my back every minute. I will have to live in fear once again.
I think if a criminal is violent then they should stay locked up for the entire prison sentence. Parole is just unfair. The system just doesn’t work.

It seems like the more violent a crime is, the less time a person serves time. NON violent criminals are doing far more time in prison then the violent ones are. And we call it “justice.” Our criminal justice system is so screwed up, it does’nt make any sense.
