Courthouses: The Vestige of the Haggling in America
Courthouses are one of the only places in American society where haggling seems to be the rule.
Then I see this article about a man who told the FBI where he stashed a bunch of bodies, and in return was not charged for the murders!! Granted he is in prison for a long time due to other crimes, but I find it amusing that the legal system is the only place we can negotiate what is going on. Law and Order, and other shows portraying the legal system give a fairly accurate representation I suppose of how deals are made.
So next time you are in a restaurant or retail shop, try to barter. See how far you can get. Especially in a restaurant, eat your meal and when the bill comes, look shocked and start to haggle. ‘Well I didn’t eat all the mashed potatoes, so you should knock some money off, also there wasn’t enough cucumbers in the salad, so I will pay you X amount less’. Then remember, when if you ever get arrested, you will finally get a chance to do some good haggling (or at least you lawyers will for you).

Don’t count on it. Have you ever been arrested, or gone to jail? The only haggling the courts will do for you, is to get you convicted.
