Call it what you will: Loss Prevention, means of protection, safety, or store detectives. The larger your store, but you need to protect their assets from theft. Companies Shoplifting costs millions of dollars each year. Security is important, but if your customers feel like they’re being watched, they feel uncomfortable and shop elsewhere. While a visual impairment dishonest buyers think twice about stealing, if you’re interested in catching thieves, and their monitoring must be secretive. While a great camera system and trained observers can be an excellent way to detect theft, the cost of that camera surveillance system can be cost prohibitive. So what is a business owner to do? You may have covert surveillance without a camera system expensive to hire a detective of the store.
To be effective, a store detective should be mixed with your customers. The first step is to match the gown of your typical customers. It could be casual or formal, or something in between. Another technique for mixing is actually the store. As for the goods and the implementation is important. But thieves know what to look for. Store detectives usually wear underwear or socks and small electronic goods. So the store detectives should avoid making this type of merchandise. The most reliable way to detect a thief is looking into the eyes. Thieves do not want to be noticed, so look around to see who is watching. Once a detective notices suspicious activity, a common reaction is to scare or jumping. It is a common physical reaction, but must be tempered in order to avoid detection. Another thing to avoid is the tunnel vision. Store Detectives inexperienced often lose sight of the bigger picture and focus only on what is right in front of them. Accomplices thieves often have to stay in order to detect the store detectives. A detective must always keep your eyes open for people who are watching what you are doing. Another type of accessory is a decoy. Decoys act too suspicious, or create a disturbance, in order to draw the attention of detectives in the store while someone else does the actual shoplifting. Some networks of thefts have been known to send a decoy in a store to defecate on the floor in order to draw the attention of store staff, store detectives and customers … In other words, to draw attention.
Another thing that the store detectives should avoid stereotypes. Image of a thief in your head. Do you see a teen complete a challenge for the theft of lipstick? Maybe you see a dirty homeless person, or a minority. Did you know that the average professional thief middle-aged, conservatively dressed white man? While teens may be more theft, the impact on your benefits will be considerably less than a professional thief. So make sure you are training your store detectives to look at all in the same way when doing surveillance.
If you can not afford a state-of-art camera system, then hiring and training of a store detective quality monitoring is a cost effective solution. Make sure you are confused by dressing like their customers, avoiding eye contact and made the purchase. Avoid reaction of shock and tunnel vision is also important. Finally, avoid stereotyping round out your detective effective surveillance of the store.
