Criminal Justice: What Will Work?

by Brenda Kay Winters in Law, November 1, 2008

In America, our laws, as well as in other societies function on basic precepts. What could we as a country do to improve?

First of all, I know that when a family member goes into prison or jail, the whole family as well as society is affected. Just what could we in America do to improve our current system? This article is to make us think and come up with some solutions. Here are the basic laws for any society.

  1. Establish courts of justice.
  2. Do not eat living creatures or humans.
  3. Do not commit robbery, for life is more important than things.
  4. Do not commit adultery.
  5. Do not murder. This applies to self or others, for it is innocent blood that defiles the land.
  6. Do not commit blasphemy.
  7. Do not commit idolatry. Worship of things, people, or created things are just wrong.

Just what is justice?

A judge is a powerful person and is to be respected. He or she is to be impartial. We see justice as blindfolded carrying scales that are in balance. Truth must come forward to tip the scales.  Bribes and partiality corrupt and cause suffering. If a person intentionally commits murder, he or she must be put to death. If it is an accident, mercy needs to come into play. If your child were murdered(who is an innocent), what would you desire to be done to the murderer? We are not allowed to take our own vengance. Cannibalism is forbidden in an evolved society. Robbery is where a person is no different than a thing that they are trying to steal. A thief comes to take things unknown to the owner, and is to repay seven fold. A beggar is better for if a true beggar, they are poor and hungry. Blashphemy denies or dishonors the One Creator who gives life to all humans and creatures. We as humans are the caretakers of this earth. Adultery is wrong because it causes disruption of families and invites disease, not to mention jealousy. Idolatry is just plain silly. It is bowing to a man made statue that is a false god. These are the basic seven laws for every society.
