Driver Crushes Night Patrol Policemen on Christmas Day Injuring Many Officers
To this day,the police does not know who hit them!
A Platoon of foot patrol policemen in the Western district of Kasese were knocked down by a hit and run car leaving many of them with serious injuries on Christmas day. The troops were carrying out night patrol as they tried to maintain law and order on the festive day. The men, all armed were walking in a single file along the Rwenzori road when the incident happened. The offending driver is said to have fled the scene and the shocked and injured soldiers did not have time to detect the number plate of the vehicle.
Of the troops on patrol that fateful night, only one survived the accident yet to this day, the police has no clue as to which vehicle or driver knocked down their own servicemen and chances are that this traffic offence may go unpunished because inspite of the victims being law enforcement personnel, they appear to lack the means to pin down the criminal.
I am sure, if this happened in a developed country, the offending driver could have been apprehended by now. The Uganda Police is very effective at investigation and arresting criminals of this nature in and around Kampala city, but the force appears to lack these skills up-country and here is where we think the government should endeavor to step up the budget so that tools for robust investigations are availed to the District Police commanders
