Environmental Evolution
The evolution of the United States Environmental protection policy.
Air quality has also been deteriorating rapidly since the 1970’s. As a result government intervention has become stricter in trying to resolve the many issues that face the world today. The Auto industry has greatly contributed to the accumulation of smog in many cities in America. The oil industry alone contributes to a widespread air quality epidemic that has lead to a build-up of greenhouse gases and global warming. Kubasek and Silverman State, “The EPA initially determined that Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulfur Dioxide (SO2, Hydrocarbons, Total suspended particulates, Nitrogen Oxide (NO2) and Ozone (O3) required regulation” (191) in the book Environmental Law written by Nancy K Kubasek and Gary S. Silverman, Pearson Prentice Hall 2008. The same pattern of intervention is on the rise to protect the air quality in the world we live. Kubasek and Silverman exemplify, “Title 2 of the 1990 CAA amendments contained a new tailpipe emissions standards rules requiring the reformation of gasoline and provisions to force automobile makers to design and manufacture cars that can run on alternative fuels” (201) in the book Environmental Law written by Nancy K Kubasek and Gary S. Silverman, Pearson Prentice Hall 2008.
This is a strong cornerstone in saving the environment and the air quality in the future. Unfortunately the rapid rise of these industries has already played a role in the destruction of the earth’s atmosphere.
By weighing the negative effects of pollution, it is clear the problem has grown since the 1970’s. In turn, society is responding by seeking government intervention as the main source of controlling and managing the problem of pollution. There are now more environmental lobbyist groups taking action to resolve these issues. The more support these groups have, the more effective their accomplishments will be. Since the 1970’s the world has taken a giant leap to restore and protect our natural resources. In 2009 President Obama enforced Federal budget approvals to help remove older vehicles from the road. More dealerships were inclined to sell newer vehicles with more economized fuel systems and alternative power sources. This budget was proposed to help the auto industry, but at the same time promotes the idea of eventually leaving a dominate petroleum based industry to progress into a more economical future. In 2009 after deploying a space craft, NASA discovered water on the moon. Though NASA claims this would be a great asset to astronauts in the future, this may actually be a foreshadowing of our destined search for natural resources in the future. The vast changes from industrialization have threatened our economy, environment, and our survival. Now is the time to take action, advance our technology, and fight back against pollution to ensure a better future for everyone.
