Free Legal Advice and Resources on the Internet

An overview of free legal sites available on the Internet.

Legal Counsel can cost a significant amount of money, attorneys can charge any where from $200-$550 per hour.  If you feel as if you need some kind of legal advice but cannot afford to pay an attorney there are alternatives.

There are some excellent legal forums on the Internet that offer legal advice & suggestions absolutely free.  Keep in mind, in no way should a free legal forum keep you from seeking legal advice from a qualified attorney however it can serve as a great help.

The Law.com is a legal forum, which is based out of New York and was established in 1996.  The site has an open forum, which allows members to post legal questions in the appropriate category and wait to receive response from other forum members.  The majority of forum members are lay people, but may have experience or legal knowledge in particular areas of law.  Occasionally, an attorney will also serve as an active forum member and is able to answer legal questions or concerns.  If you decide to join this forum, you will be asked to pick a screen name and supply some personal information.   A link will be sent to your email address and this will serve to activate your new account.

Several areas of law are covered such as, labor, marriage, child custody, discrimination, and harassment.  There are certain rules forum members must follow.  No obscenities, harassment or inappropriate postings or behavior will be tolerated.  This is a free site. You can view this site by going to www.thelaw.com.

Law Guru.com is a free legal site, which allows members to post questions under the appropriate topic of law pertaining to their situation.  The great thing about this site is that actual attorneys review your questions and will usually respond to your question within 3-5 days.  There is absolutely no charge to become a member of the site.  In addition, the attorneys are members of the site also and are more than happy to assist members in answering questions.  Remember, responses from attorneys in no way create an attorney client relationship.  Over 75 areas of law are covered on Law Guru such as, deeds, estates, child custody, divorce law, sex harassment law, employment discrimination, personal injury, negligence and much more.   This is one of the better sites on the Internet due to the fact that lawyers participate in answering questions.  Registration requires an email address and you will be asked some personal information, which remains confidential.

Free Advice.com is a free legal forum very similar to The Law.com.  Any one is eligible to join and participate along with other members.  Messages will be posted under your desired screen name and other active members will have an opportunity to respond.  In addition, there is a section, which allows a member to post questions and search for an attorney in their area.  The forum will then have to wait to receive a response from an attorney.  In the meantime, the member can continue to post any legal questions or concerns on the site.  Areas of law covered are, Internet law, personal injury, divorce, harassment, insurance, employment, and union issues.  You can visit the website at www.freeadvice.com.

Labor Law Talk.com is another forum offering free legal advice to other members.  Members share experiences and try to answer questions to the best of their knowledge.  The forum is free and certain rules apply to all active members.  Registration takes minutes and new members can post as many questions as they desire.  Labor Law Talk does have forum moderators that monitor activity of all members.  Please visit www.Labor Law Talk.com.
