Fugitive Needs Assistance
Parole violations typically result in the parolee’s being returned to prison, depending on the nature of the violation which must be reviewed by a parole board. The board conducts a hearing on the alleged violation or violations and decides whether or not the parolee should continue to be granted parole.
Rice Vince (real name not used), 59, of Prineville, Oregon, was on the run from authorities for violating his parole on a murder and escape conviction in Atlanta, Georgia. Under these circumstances, he was probably driving as fast as he could to put as much distance as possible between him and lawmen presumably hot on his tail.
But then, on a road in Wyoming, he ran out of gas. It seems likely that in his haste, Vince had been so focused on the task of fleeing that he failed to notice the plunging needle on the gas gauge. But, being the grizzled veteran of the trade that he is, he didn’t resort to the kind of panicky attempt at damage control that would have been the undoing of a wet-behind-the-ears neophyte. He remained cool throughout the crisis, calmly viewing the situation as just another temporary setback. His long years of experience showed as he carefully weighed his options before coming to a calculated decision. He called the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office for roadside assistance.
Perhaps this was his cunning way of hiding in plain sight. The most daring specimen of this breed of men would be the wanted criminal who strolls into a police station and escapes detection because it’s the last place anyone expects him to turn up in unescorted. Or perhaps Vince needed not just a fresh intake of gas, but a different kind of full tank, the kind that should sit on his neck and shoulders.
However thwarted he might feel right now, Vince of Prineville Oregon, with last known address Atlanta, Georgia, can’t complain about the service he got from the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office. Not only did the responding officers give him more than he expected in roadside assistance, upon learning that he had a warrant outstanding in Atlanta, Georgia they generously gave him free board and lodging till such time he could be extradited back to where his arrival is eagerly awaited.
