Gun Control
As a society, we need to come together and try to put a stop to this ongoing problem.
Is there really such a thing? I am starting to think that gun and control are two words that should not be used in the same sentence. Another shooting making headlines, nine lives gone. This is the type of thing that doesn’t make sense.
If the issue of gun control was addressed and enforced properly, a lot of these situations could have been prevented. There should be stricter laws for obtaining guns and tougher punishments for the abuse of guns. I’ve had my share of experience with gun abuse. The misuse of a gun landed my brother in prison at the age of sixteen. The abuse of one took my twenty-one year old sister’s life leaving her two children motherless. We as a society need to come together and raise the issue of Gun Control. It begins in the home, we as parents need to teach our children that guns are not toys.
They need to know the consequences of picking up a gun. Then after we’ve got our homes in order, we need to take this issue to the mayors of our cities, the governors of our states and higher if we have to. This topic should be addressed just as the war in Iraq. We as a society are quick to say that President Bush is sending our soldiers to Iraq to get killed, well what about the war we have here. Who do we point fingers at for that: ourselves.
At least in Iraq, the soldiers die defending our country, the victims of gun abuse die because no one read between the lines. No one noticed the signs, they just didn’t care or they never thought it would happen in their family. I never thought it would happen in mine, but it did: twice. Our soldiers in Iraq, I agree are dying in a senseless war, but our children here don’t have to die in senseless situations. They can be prevented.
