How to Get Married in The State of Alaska?

Getting married in the State of Alaska is comparatively easy, with less stringent provisions and formalities for the completion of a marriage.

While filling up the application for getting a license for your marriage, the application should be signed by a witness; similarly, the name of the bride after the marriage should also be clearly mentioned, for which you should have planned in advance.

Having applied for a license for getting married, you have to wait three full days, before getting married. However, the mere issue and dispatch of your license for marriage in your favor does not mean that you have got a valid license for your marriage.The license should be signed by a justice of the peace or a religious clergyman in order to become valid.On your marriage day, you have to hand over the license to your chaplain and after performing the marriage ceremony, he will sign it and send it to the proper government agency for validating the license.

You can get married at any time within 90 days from the date of obtaining your license; the license gets expired after 90 days.The license of marriage issued within the State of Alaska is valid only within the territorial or water limits of Alaska.

You need not undergo any tests for getting a valid license; you can get married with your cousin; however, you cannot get married with a person within the prohibited degree of relationship.

Who are the Officiates of your marriage in the State of Alaska ?

A minister, priest or rabbi of any church or congregation in the state may perform your marriage. Ministers will provide the marriage certificates to you when you get married and report the marriage to the marriage commissioner.

Therefore, if you want to get married in the State of Alaska, you have to observe the above said formalities, failing which, your marriage may become void ab initio or invalid.

    Similar to Florida only the licence fee is cheaper in Alaska.

    It should be cold there and hard to concentrate on the honeymoon. I’d rather make it in Hawaii.
