Definition: International law governs relations between states
Facts:
-States must follow the rules of international law when they form relationships with each other.
-”state”–> a group of people that
1)is recognized as an independent country
2)has territory rule by a sovereig (independent) government…..that can enter into relations with other states.
-Canada is one of the 191 sovereign states in the world.
-International Law is based on three types of law, Customary law, Treaty law, and Resolutions.
Customary Law
-While it is not written down in formal codes, customary law is found in the writins of legal experts and written judgments in international court cases
-the following are based on the idea that states have certain rights and obligations:
1)Sovereignty
2)Recognition
3)Consent
4)Good Faith
5)Freedom of the Seas
6)International Responsibility
7)Self-Defence
