Law in The Eyes of The Law Student

In the eyes of the law student, law is a living subject, and as such, he relates everything that that happens around him either with the law as it is, or with the law as it ought to be. The law student accepts change, because he knows that law is a dynamic and ever-changing subject. However, he only accepts change that is geared towards positivism and in line with the rule of law, and will strongly oppose negative change, which is why people like Gani Fawehinmi (of blessed memory), Femi Falana, etc have not failed to oppose acts and policies that are against the rule of law and the welfare of the people.

Abound in most of the nation’s universities today are a peculiar set of students, unique both in their dressing and in their way of life. This set of students command both the respect and the envy of the other students. Who are they? Well, they are none other than those who have dedicated their lives to the study of law. They are the prestigious law students.

While other students view the law as a thing to be feared, with some seeing law only from the criminal aspect of it, the law student sees the law as his friend and life companion. It is true that law is a difficult aspect of life in the eyes of lazy students, but, the average law student is far from lazy. He is the epitome of hard work and industry, and he believes that the best form of development is self-development. This is because every law student knows that lawyers are not born, lawyers are made.

The law student sees the law as the basic foundation of every society; hence he makes law a part of his life, and showcases the discipline and responsibility of the lawyer to the society. A student of law is that person who makes the law his daily guide. Once you put on the cloak of the law student, you become a student of law for life, as you will continue to learn and read about our ever-changing laws until you draw your last breath.

Therefore, in the eyes of the law student, law is not a subject or a course of study, neither is it a body of rules governing human behaviour, but law is a way of life.
