Introduction

Studying for a law degree in the state of Massachusetts can either make or break your career in your law career. Law schools in Massachusetts are among the best in the nation and some in the world. These law schools provide you with both interdisciplinary and joint degrees in law and you can select the one that suits you on the basis of admission criteria, ranking and accreditation academic programs, public or private.

Admission Criteria

To be admitted in a law school in Massachusetts you must sit for laws school admission test (LSAT) (See Reference 6). For example Harvard law which is located in Cambridge requires you to take LSAT) and register for LSAC’s Credential Assembly Service (LADAS) before you pay all the required fees. You must also submit both undergraduate and graduate transcripts to LSAC and write two admission letters (See Reference 4). Other law schools like: New England School of Law, Boston University Law School, Boston College Law School follow similar admission criteria like Harvard (See Reference 5). The Massachusetts School of Law at Andover which was founded in 1988, administers it own examination (MSLAT) that is similar to the LSAT but it does not require you take LSAC and LSAT.

Academic Programs

The Massachusetts law schools offer programs in business law, estate planning, criminal law, real estate, public interest law and international and comparative law. New England School of Law which is private law school situated in Boston and founded in 1908 as law school for women, offers part-time and full time programs with an application deadline of March 15 every year (See reference 3). New England school has three specializations in tax law, international law and environmental law. It also offers a program where you can spend a period of upto two academic semesters at a law school associated with Consortium for Innovative Legal Education (See Reference 4).  On the other hand, Boston University Law School which is a public institution offers concentrations in health law, intellectual; property law, litigation and dispute resolution and business organizations and finance law. The school also offers LL.M programs in American law, banking and financial law, intellectual property, and taxation and J.D/LL.M. programs in: European law, banking and financial law and taxation. Harvard Law School, Massachusetts Law School at Andover, Boston College Law School, Boston College Law School and University of Massachusetts also offers academic programs in LL.M and J.D.
