A Statement of Facts:
Plessy who was 7/8 Caucasian took a seat in the “whites only” part of the train. He refused to move to
the black section and got arrested.
The Supreme Court’s Decision:
The Court ruled that it was legal to separate Plessy because of the separate but equal doctrine.
The arrest did not violate Plessy Equal Protection Clause stated in the 14th amendment
The Precedent Established:
The precedent established was that as long as a facility is equal it is ok to segregate whites and blacks
from each other because of the separate but equal doctrine.
Your Insights and Opinion of the Supreme Court Case
I disagree with this case because since Plessy was 7/8 Caucasian he should be allowed into the white
part of the train.
