Red Light Camera Tickets “Signed” by Dead Officer

Some people that are receiving red light camera tickets in Baltimore, Maryland might want to check the name of the officer who is "certifying" the tickets to make sure the officer is actually ALIVE.

While the Baltimore city law requires each red light ticket to be reviewed and certified by a human ebfore being sent to offenders, WBAL-TV is reporting that many of the tickets were being certified by someone who was dead for months, thus lending to the belief that nobody at all was actually reviewing the tickets.

Insisting that it was just a computer glitch, the police department denies any wrongdoing, and that living officers are indeed reviewing all red light camera offenses. They say that only the offending vehicle owners are being notified of the wrong officer’s name, and that they have the correct information on internal copies on file.

Officer James Fowler was killed in a car accident in Pennsylvania on Sept. 27, 2010, but apparently has been “signing” off on roughly two thousand violations which the city is now trying to correct.

According to the WBAL-TV article, legal analysts predict that Baltimore City will have a hard time enforcing any citations certified by the deceased officer after 9/27/2010.

Go figure.
