Tracing a Stolen iPad by GPS

This can go under the title stupid criminal. It is quite an interesting story. I had no idea about this aspect of iPads.

Rochester PA police  had no problems tracing an iPad that was stolen.

The police were able to find it fast because Apple electronic products have a tracing systems.

A man named James Michaels called police on April 22, 2011, Good Friday. (authors note, to the upcoming criminal, how shameful that you commit a crime on Good Friday.) James Michaels reported that that day a man did some work around his house for him who was named Michael Cujas allegedly took James Michaels iPad in his vehicle.

James Michaels was dropping him off somewhere near Sheldon’s Flowers, before he dropped him off, Michael Cujas was in the back seat using the iPad of James Michaels. Later after he dropped off Cujas, he went into the back of his vehicle to get his iPad and it was missing.

James Michaels was smart and went to an electronics store, and got help from an employee, to use an internet trapping location for apple products. The person who helped him was looking to see where the iPad was located.

The tracking tool tracked the product to the house of April Cujas, where they believe Michael Cujas was staying.

Cujas, when confronted, said he had the iPad  and put it somewhere in the house in which he was staying. There were two searches of the house  and were unable to find the iPad. Cujas is charged with theft and receiving property.
