Ye Hai Dilli Meri Jaan
This is regarding the indiffernce of Delhites towards people dying on the roads.
This is Delhi
I live in Delhi . I call myself so because I have come to Delhi from all over India in search of a better life and fortune. Those who are originally from Delhi could not have cared less to be called a Delhite. A Delhite is basically an end product of continued immigration – whether in recent years or from the time of partition. My father and grand-father have seen enough of blood sheds and absence of law and order at our native places before my family moved to Delhi. I do not understand what is the great fuss about a girl being killed in a broad daylight? This happens everywhere in the world . Let’s see the crime statistics of other cities of the world and compare. I can’t let myself affected by this. I live in post-liberalisation era. My goals are acquisitions and consumptions. I don’t have time to stop and take a bleeding girl to hospital. After all, this is the responsibility of Delhi Police. What are they doing?
Why should I get involved with a murder case and be a witness in Court. It should be better left to Police to crack their heads to solve it and TV channels to analyze and host the panel talks. It has a news value and I would watch this in the evening in between the tel soaps and be genuinely disappointed to see the worsening law and order situation in Delhi. I am also leaving the field open for politicians, sociologists, psychologists, retired police officers and celebrities to explain the root causes and enlighten us on this whole culture of in-sensitiveness towards women in general and indifference shown by a common Delhite towards any person in distress in particular. And after all the social networking sites also have some duty to send and share the messages /blogs on this case asking for justice and plan may be –a Candle March by Delhi socialites to India Gate. Why do you want to drag me into this case when there are so many ready to be involved in it
I am a Delhite and live here for a lifestyle. I love big malls, multiplexes, amusement parks, eating joints and flyovers of Delhi. Don’t take me wrong. See I am busy rushing to my work and you know the Delhi traffic. In any case, my mind is occupied with so many thoughts. There are issues of child’s admission to school/college , guitar & dance classes for my daughter during the coming summer vacation, my next promotion or a new break, the real estate value of the property I have invested in, next outing with the family, buying the latest gadget and at the top of it; Team India’s bowling woes in the ongoing Cricket World Cup.
You see, life is tough in Metros; too much of competition and I have to move ahead- no matter over someone’s dead body. Life begins like this . Remember what the Prof. Virusahastra Buddhadev taught us in ‘Three Idiots”. I am a Delhite and I am doing exactly the same. Please excuse me.
