It has been rumoured that one will have to do a DNA testing in before an foriegner(who is a Jamaican) can file for children at home. The new regulation stipulates that an overseas parent filing for a child in Jamaica will have to take a DNA test to corrobate that the child is biologically related to the filer before the child is granted a visa.

The new regulation is geared at stemming the number of children that are traffick into the United states yearly as a part of the human trafficking ring. It is stated that individuals are filing for children under the guise of parents and are selling the children into the human smuggling trade. Children are sold in labour markets where they work for minimum wage or in some cases without pay. Girls are enrolled into commercial sex as prostitutes and call girls.

There was a recent rise in the abduction of babies in Jamaica to sold abroad as adopted children or as prospective workers.  The government and officials are concerned with this issue as human trafficking has become rampant in the last few decades. The government wants to clamper down on this activity. There are individuals who are posing as foriegners that are preying on the desires of many Jamaicans to migrate to the United States as a venue for socio-economical upliftment. Parents are being conned into giving away thier children to strangers who pretend as if they are going to be giving the child a better life. When the child emigrates, he or she is sold into human trafficking systems.

What do you think about the new regulation?

Do you think  the authorities are going to far?

Do you think that DNA testing of children before they enter a new country with an assumed parent will stem human trafficking of young boys and girls?
