A Momentary Morsel: the Worst Mistake You Could Ever Make

Musings on the biggest trade in history.

The Biggest Trade in History: Our Soul.  The Old Testament tells the story of a man, Esau, who traded his birthright for a cup of soup.  Who would ever trade their entire inheritance for a momentary morsel?   Well, before venting too loudly, let’s consider the momentary morsels of society today.

What things are we trading our inheritance for today?  The author leaves no conclusions, only the following scenarios:

I am starving for something in life (what is it for you?).  I am famished in an area or two of my life and I’m beginning to think that I might do just about anything to satisfy that craving (what is that craving?).

I need attention and am not getting it in my marriage.  I am “starving for attention”.  Will I trade my marriage for a momentary morsel with another person?

I need acceptance and have not received it from my father.  I am “starving for acceptance”.  Will I trade my dignity for momentary morsel?  Will I do anything to be accepted by a male figure?

I need money and am not getting paid enough.  Will I trade lifelong friendships for promotions?  Will I trade time with family for a larger paycheck and a heavy travel schedule?

I need a new car and a big-screen TV.  Will I trade more of my financial freedom for a debt with interest?

Am I currently trading something that I should be holding on to?  Is there a more healthy way for my needs to be met?  Must I part with my God-given rights just to realize the deep longings of my heart?

Conclusion:

I will not trade the rich blessings that I have now, for a momentary morsel of satisfaction in any area of my life.

Hi, a nice and deep reflection, how true it is that sometimes we just trade our soul for worldly possesion.
