A Passion for Words
Continual learning will only feed your passion for writing.

I have always loved learning vocabulary words. In fact, one of my favorite classes in school was my 7th grade English class taught by a very loquacious, vivacious teacher because of the great array of vocabulary words I learned within it. My teacher had a zest for teaching and was able to keep me completely enthralled by her lessons.
Maybe it was a combination of my love for the subject and the teacher’s high energy skills that did the trick, but I remember vividly a 200 word vocabulary test that she gave to her students at one point, that I completely aced without studying a single minute. Amazingly, I was able to remember every single word and definition solely from her talking about them. It surprised her, as I was the only one in the class who received a 100%. It surprised her so much so that she announced it to the entire class. When the stunned students asked me how long I studied, quietly I answered, none.
I don’t know what it is about the written word and being able to find the exact vocabulary word that touches my soul deeper than I can, ironically, fully express in words, but there is something about the timelessness of these things that moves me deeply. There have even been many times that I have talked about making the goal of learning all the vocabulary words in the dictionary. For me such a goal will not only increase my writing skills exponentially, but it will feed the intellectual cravings in my mind.
In addition, I know the only way to truly stay young and happy is to continue to learn and keep your mind fresh and alert. I have discovered that so many people turn to alcohol, tobacco and other such drugs to keep them “going” in life. I have discovered through many arduous lessons that the power of the mind, your imagination, and continual learning is truly the only “drug” you will ever need. It will keep you happier, healthier and going better and stronger than ever before.
Life is as simple and as complex as that.
And the word I looked up today is accoucheur = which means a person who assists in child birth, esp. an obstetrician.
