A Review of Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness

This is a rare review of Robert Cheeke’s book, Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness.

Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness is a groundbreaking book. Besides being a guide to vegan bodybuilding and the real life experiences of a vegan bodybuilder, Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness completely goes against conventional wisdom. How many times have you heard, “you need to eat meat to build muscle mass” or “egg whites are essential to getting and absorbing protein for building muscle.” I’ve heard this over and over again by personal trainers, friends, other athletes and people in various gyms. This is the conventional wisdom subscribed to by the vast majority of people, but as with most things, most people just accept it as a fact and never really spend time questioning this “wisdom.” Fortunately for us, Robert Cheeke is not a conventional guy.

I’ve been fortunate enough to meet Robert Cheeke on more than one occasion both before and  after reading Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness and I can say without a doubt, he’s the real deal. Robert is approachable, funny, inspirational and most importantly a real vegan bodybuilder. So often, authors write about something they think is a good idea or plan on doing, but Robert has done everything he talks about in Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness. That’s just one of the reasons that he has become the world’s most recognizable vegan athlete.

Robert has written a book that you will constantly reference as you build your foundation as a vegan athlete. There are chapters detailing Robert’s journey to becoming a vegan bodybuilder starting with when and why he became a vegan and a bodybuilder followed by different workouts and nutrition plans geared towards your fitness objectives and finally, taking it to the next level. Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness is really one of a select few just like its author.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. Is it for everybody? No. This book is for the people that aspire to something beyond the conventional wisdom and are committed to being healthy following a plant based diet. And for those people that want to become the next bodybuilding sensation, this is a great starting point or reference.
