Benefits of Drinking Soya Milk
This is an article about my personal experience of drinking Soya Milk as a healthy alternative to dairy cow’s milk with a cache.

When I was in my adolescent years, I am one of the persons who have lactose intolerance or experience irritable bowel movements (IBM) when I drink full cream milk or dairy cow’s milk. Anything that contains dairy doesn’t seem to agree with my body or digestive system.
Since it is necessary to our health to drink milk now and again, I ask my physician if there is an alternative to dairy products. He advised me to try soya milk for a week. If it agrees with my body, then I should continue drinking it or shift to having it instead of dairy milk. I took his advised and tried it for a week or two. I noticed the significant change or difference from drinking dairy. Soya Milk agrees with my body. I did not have problems either with IBM or constipation. Hence, everything was normal.
However, as years gone by, I started asking myself what benefits will I get in continuously drinking soya milk instead of dairy cow’s milk? Will it do me good forever or dairy cow’s milk is still best?
Based on my research, the following are basic benefits we get from drinking soya milk:
- It contains what they call “isoflavones”. Isoflavones are antioxidants which help protect our cells against free radicles and oxidation. These are thought to be linked with a number of health benefits including the prevention of heart disease, some cancers (ex. breast cancers) and osteoporosis. Isoflavones are not present in cow’s milk.
- A good source of lecithin. Vitamins B and E. Wherein vitamin E is helpful in maintaining healthy skin.
- Soya milk is also a great source of fibre. It has even more fibre content than cow’s milk which helps in our general digestive functions.
- Soya milk also contains fat. But the fats on it are good fats and it is cholesterol free which means when replacing cow’s milk it can help prevent clogged arteries and heart disease.
Lastly, Soya milk is lactose free. Around 75% of the global population had some kind of lactose intolerance including myself and this is especially true of those of African and Asian origin. My article concludes that continuously drinking soya milk is as good as drinking dairy cow’s milk or as an alternative health drink for those with lactose intolerance.

I have also read an article about a woman who complained the bad effects of soya milk on her and was skeptical about its benefits. My personal opinions are:
- If you are alright in drinking dairy cow’s milk, you do not need to shift in drinking soya milk for it might also have a side effect on you.
- If soya milk does not agree with your body, simply stop or discontinue it.
It does not mean that just because the findings of soya milk is as good as dairy cow’s milk and can be an alternative to cow’s milk – you have to take it as well even if you are alright with dairy cow’s milk. I do not think you need to shift from your normal routine of taking dairy products if it agrees with your body.
I should say, everything is a case to case bases. Seek doctor’s advice if necessary than doing it yourself.
As for me, I am lactose intolerant and drinking dairy cow’s milk does not agree with my digestive system, this is the main reason why I shifted to drinking soya milk as my alternative to dairy.
