Blue Today, Green Tomorrow
Today I am blue, tomorrow I may be green, and the next perhaps I’ll be yellow. No matter what primary color I am, all the colors used to form who I am come to the surface when I need them. What color are you?
Seven o’clock in the morning and I’m already feeling blue. A scant dusting of white flakes drape over fallen leaves on the ground outside. The gray morning sky turns bleak, but my mood inside is bright. Another day to spend in the house, alone, with two kids. I can’t help but grin at the possibilities today arises. My four year old daughter loves to help me do crafts, and my two year old son is happy to play blocks.
My kids are as different as white is to black. For instance my daughter’s favorite color is blue. During the day she loves to be read to, to draw, and to make things from colored paper and glue. For her fourth birthday party she wanted an orange cake. It suited her perfectly. Of course, my two year old son doesn’t know what his favorite color is, but if I had to guess I’d say it would be blue or green, or some awkward shade in-between
A part of who we are can be described by a color. I am blue today. Blue tends to be the color of creativity. People who are blue usually need to contribute, to encourage, and to care about people and things in their lives. They tend to be romantics and believe in everlasting love. Blue people are imaginative, sensitive, and want positive reinforcement for their work.
On the opposite, a person on the GREEN side is always seeking knowledge and understanding. They always need explanations and answers. Driven by the challenge of their career, work is like play to a child for them. The head rules the heart, and it can be difficult to see a person in this color express their emotions. As a child they are wise beyond their years.
A GOLDEN child is the easiest of all types of children to adapt to the routines of going to school. They have a strong sense of right and wrong, and value their family. An organization guru who believes work must come before play. In love they search for a mate to work beside them, traditional, conservative, and practical in all things.
Everything goes out the window with ORANGE! These fun loving, risk taking, life of the party people yearn for freedom. You’ve probably met at least one, the person your class dubbed as “clown” in third grade. They have a hard time fitting into routines and hands on experiences to learn. Energetic, bold, and thriving on physical contact – a simple hug will do. Extravagant in their gift giving you will find a splash of orange inside.
To say I am blue is not a realistic observation. When God made me, knitted me in my mother’s womb, he didn’t simply pick out one color and call it forth in my name. I suppose you could say we are all a mixture of creation – a master piece. I think if you took a dollop of blue, a drip of orange, a splash of yellow, and a squeeze of green and mixed it all together you would find something close to what would be my true color.
Each and every one of us has a unique formula swirled together to make us who we are. Not one of us, not even a twin, has the same precise mixture poured into the can, referred to as life. Now our mixture can sit idol for a while and the colors will begin to separate. Or it can be shook up a bit from time to time. When we are stuck in a violent shake I find the best thing to do is hold on for the ride.
God doesn’t want our colors to separate. He doesn’t want his formulas to go bad. Nor does he want one drip to spill over and waste. There are none which matches his pristine white, but there are many who roll in the soot under the kettle.
There are so many colors, so many potentials, and so many of us who do not know what they are. Today I am blue, tomorrow I may be green, and the next perhaps I’ll be yellow. No matter what primary color I am, all the colors used to form who I am come to the surface when I need them.
What color are you?
