Choosing Happiness

It’s easy to feel like sometimes the world is just out to get us. However, by changing our mindset, can we change our circumstances?

A quote from somewhere read, “You choose your own happiness.” By taking these words seriously and really taking ownership over my own cirmcumstances, I now see how true these words can be. With every situation that arises everyday, how we handle it can really affect the outcome in our moods and consequences. There are people who we look up to because of the graceful way they handled their adversities. And eventually they get back on top, somehow throughout whatever fate or life throws at them. No one is immune to hardships. It’s what we do with them that can determine which path we are led on.

Unhappiness seems to stem from dwelling on unfortunate matters and losing hope overall. There is no question that some people are given one bad situation after another. Time seems extremely scary in those dark hours. But when you hit rock bottom, the only direction you can go from there is up. Maybe that is why certain people choose to go in that direction. However, there are many others who know that they are the ruler of their fate. And with every twist and turn life takes on, they choose happiness by remembering to have faith and never losing hope that miracles can occur. With a positive attitude they reflect and attract more positive situations towards them. Rarely are people attracted to helping sad and angry people who blame the world for their misery. That is why choosing happiness can benefit you in more ways than you will at first realize.

Holding onto to the things that bring us down will only keep us in a sad state. Shedding light and laughter around you will keep you uplifted. By choosing to be happy, you are saying, “I will not allow anyone to come in and take that away from me,” no matter what anyone says or does to you. Life will test this many times. A boss will come in and yello at you about your performance. You can either choose to get angry or later realize what he said may have some truth to it and will help you later on or that he is having a bad day and taking it out on you. It’s always your choice.
