Denial is Not Just a River in Africa

1. Blame

   What is it with our society? We make mistakes and get caught. Then we blame everyone else for our mistakes, as if we can somehow justify it.

2. Misunderstanding

   Instead of apologizing for our words whether spoken or written, we say that the listener “misunderstood” our meaning.

3. Lies

   Once we tell a lie, we don’t want to get caught. So we tell another lie and another lie to cover up the first lie. Pretty soon, we can’t remember what the truth was to begin with.

4. Rationalize Overkill

   We become so good at explaining why we did something wrong, that we accept the wrong behavior as necessary.

5. Camouflage

   We would rather be part of the wallpaper in a controversy, than speak our opinion.

6. Bully

   We bully and intimidate those with opinions, beliefs or religions different from our own.

   We have no debating skills. So we insult people who disagree with us.

8. Error

   We are wrong, we know it and yet we never admit it. Then to prove to ourselves that we are in the right, we increase the insults and bullying.

9. Excuses

   We always seem to have reasons for not doing whatever it is that we know we should be doing.

10. Agenda
    

     We twist and manipulate the words of others to suit our own personal gains.

Why can’t we human beings learn from our mistakes and move forward? Scholars tell us that lessons learned, make us better people.

By denying ourselves the opportunity to admit our mistakes, we will never reach our complete human potential. We will never know how great we truly can be.
