Dream Your Way to Success

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Alfred Einstein.

I love that quote  by Albert Einstein. That statement is why he is one of my heroes. When I first thought about writing this piece I was thinking mostly about offering suggestions to you about the use of positive pre-sleep suggestions as a form of self hypnosis. But I am going to save that for another time soon and rather talk about the power of daydreaming.

Yup. Maybe you were chastised for spending time this way when you were a child, and told your were “wasting time”. But then again maybe not. I hope not. If you were lucky enough to have free time that was not continually occupied by TV or some other type of media, maybe you got out on a nice weekend or a summer eve and had a chance to lie back on soft grass and watch the clouds go by. Maybe while you were doing that, you let your mind wander and as you did, you began to see shapes in the clouds that suggested people, boats, trains or any kind of real or other re animal creature types. Maybe you got caught up in making a story about all these images in your mind. Or maybe you were with a friend and the two of you found and pointed out different beings and creatures to one another, seeing if you could  both identify the same shape. Eventually the clouds passed by and your story changed or you gave up the cloud gazing and went on to other things.

If you haven’t done this,or done it lately, no matter what your age, I want to offer you the suggestion to go out and watch clouds on the next nice day when you have some free time. You will be amazed at how refreshed you feel afterwards. The reason for this is that you have allowed yourself to take a short mental vacation, a mini vacation of sorts,  and let your mind wander into your inner realms of creativity. While you were doing this, your brain was also solving other problems on a different level.

Maybe after you get home from cloud gazing you find it much easier to focus on a particular problem you have been struggling with. This was the other part of your mind working while you were relaxing. If you decide to tell yourself you need to let the problem solving part of your mind work on a subconscious while your thinking brain noodles around up in the clouds, you will be tapping into one of your own greatest resources. That is the power of your own mind where all the information you have ever picked up through experience or observations is waiting around, ready to form new thoughts and solutions to things you have been wondering about and  perhaps struggling with.

So try it, it’s a wonderful way to relax. Who knows what you’ll find up there.
