Fear: F-alse E-vidence A-ppearing R-eal

Don’t be afraid…

Some people consider fear an enemy, others may consider it an ally. Although they are neither right nor wrong, whenever there’s something that is considered a threat, the human body enter in a state of alertness which is translated subconsciously into fear.

We all need to have this feeling because it is our self-defense system responding to a certain situation in order to keep us protected. However, nothing is really good in excess; besides, it can become a phobia.

In childhood, some people are afraid of the dark, but once they grow up this sensation no longer exists; therefore some things we fear most are not real or never really happen. Most of them are just on our minds, that’s why it is important to identify them.

Once it is done, we can start the process to eliminate them. The first step has already been taken, now competence is needed to face our fears. Remember, this is not about confidence, this is about competence.

There is a very useful logic that can be applied, especially when the feeling is intense:

1. What would happen if this happened?
2. What would happen if this didn’t happen?
3. What wouldn’t happen if this happened?
4. What wouldn’t happen if this didn’t happen?

Someone is able to think clearly and eliminate doubts or fears when those questions are kept in the brain.

Last but not least, it is time to face the fear. It is NOT as bad as you imagine!

Well, I have to say that I did enjoy this article. It is an important topic that needs to be addressed. I believe, that most things in our lives really only exist in our minds. However, much of our foundation is built upon things are simply non existent. As you stated, the dark with monsters, ghosts and other imagined things. You see, we scares ourselves with our imaginations. It is our imaginations that make us human.

A “scary” but moving image of a child…fear can be used, that’s for sure.

    Nicely done!
