Five Minute Foot Reflexology Technique

Reflexology is a holistic therapy treatment which is based on the theory that all areas of the body are reflected in the feet, hands and ears.

Applying pressure to the respective areas will stimulate them. Reflexology can reduce stress, improve circulation and help with relaxation.

The following techniques are very easy to learn. Here we concentrate on “foot” reflexology.

  1. Get your subject to lie down, or sit with feet resting on a stool or small table.
  2. Prepare the feet for treatment by using cotton wool and rose water to soothe and bathe them. This is part of the relaxation and pampering of the subject.
  3. Position the two feet close to each other and imagine that you are looking at a map of the body. You are going to gently press various points on the feet in order to stimulate the circulation. Use the diagram below to picture this and work from the head (big toe) down the body, moving from side to side as you go.
  4. Work firmly but gently to stimulate all the points in order. The foot must be held firmly and steadily or treatment can be uncomfortable and “ticklish” for sensitive feet. Hold the foot as shown in the diagram below for best effect.
  5. You can add some foot massage to the treatment to further relax the subject.
  6. Don’t use oil of any kind for reflexology, as your fingers may slip as you apply pressure and cause pain.
  7. A light dusting of talcum powder will help you to hold the foot firmly and allow you hands to glide smoothly over it
  8. As you work, you may be sensitive enough to feel tiny crystals under the skin in certain areas. Record the position of these areas on a piece of paper. These can help indicate areas of the body that might need special attention.

That often happens, Judy! It is a fascinating subject. I’m a qualified reflexologist and we were taught how to detect areas of imbalance and map possible troublspots within the body. It really does work.
