For Love or Money? Important Decisions

by Liane Schmidt in Lifestyle Choices, February 21, 2008

You can do anything in life.

Sometimes when you have too many options it can be difficult to choose a single path for your life.

Maybe you are good at a great many different things, i.e. writing, public speaking, and motivating others however you know that to be an expert in any particular subject you must really take the time to focus on a particular craft.

Maybe you go back and forth in your mind about the fact that many people in the world are able to juggle more than one career venture at a time. For example, there are many successful people who operate more than one type of business successfully. But, if you are just trying to get your foot in the door somewhere, sometimes spreading yourself too thin over too many projects may become more of an impediment than a forward step toward your dreams and visions.

So, how do you know? This is the difficult question.

It is often a good idea to turn to people who have what you want. For instance, if you want to be a millionaire, seek the advice of those who already are millionaires. Brian Tracy, self-made millionaire, and someone I greatly admire has written numerous books and even has an online educational program to teach others how to make their millions is someone I look to learn from.

It is also important to make time to take inventory of what your most highly held values are. Do you want to love what you do or do you want a career that affords you the personal lifestyle that you envision? Maybe you want to be able to travel the world and retire early. Your goal may then be to make money quickly, work hard long hours and then invest once you have a significant sum of money in a steady, reliable stock. Or maybe you prefer to endeavor into a career that you love that does not pay you an incredible salary.

Which do you choose, love or money? If you are lucky, ideally you will be able to find a career that offers you the best of both worlds. The career of your dreams with a salary that you not only deserve, but offers you rewards far beyond your every hope and vision.

This is why taking the time to really sit down and contemplate what is most important to you is truly an invaluable step to take. Bounce your ideas off your closest friends and loved ones so that you are able to have a sounding board for your thoughts. Write your thoughts down; take note of when you are doing something that really makes you happiest.

With time, you will eventually see the picture through a clearer lens and you will be able to maneuver through all the many options that lie in wait before you. Trust your instincts. Take your time. Your dreams are invaluable, precious, and important. Do not let anyone tell you differently.
