Goal Setting, Key to Living a Better Life: Part One

Many people suffer from this disease called lack of focus or direction in life. They live life daily as it comes. They are not mindful of the fact that for them to achieve any measure of success in life, there must be a deliberate effort by that individual to get organised by setting goals.

Introduction

Many people suffer from this disease called lack of focus or direction in life. They live life daily as it comes. They are not mindful of the fact that for them to achieve any measure of success in life, there must be a deliberate effort by that individual to get organised by setting goals.

Most people set themselves up for failure by failing to plan. Why do people fail to plan? 

The reasons range from: 

* that it is too difficult to plan, 

* not having enough resources with which to plan,

* the wrong notion that you start planning when you have surplus resources(money).

* For another group, they do not know how to plan,

* while for some it is plain laziness.

* Types of people

In life, people generally fall into different categories depending on their orientation, belief system and chosen way of life.

You have the Proactive group of people,the Reactive group,the Active group and the Care free group.

i) Proactive people.

The proactive people are careful and deliberate planners of all aspects of their lives.They as a result achieve much more daily and generally maximise the expected outcome in all spheres of life.They consequently rule their world. 

ii) Reactive people

The reactive group are people,that allow circumstances to dictate how they live.They merely react to any circumstance that occur the best they could.They are consequently sometimes confused and overwhelmed by the multifarious issues of life. 

iii) Active people

The active group of people, believe so much in their capacity to handle anything that comes their way so they hardly plan. They launch into several projects and in the middle of it, find out that they do not have enough resources to finish them. Because of the lack of initial plans, they consequently make their dependants suffer unduly as they make stop gap plans along the way to meet challenges they are not prepared to face. They are always in a hurry to get things done. They start projects and abandon them halfway to begin new ones. This is a chaotic way to live.

iv) Carefree people

The carefree group of people really do not want to be bothered about anything at all. They live life as it comes. They entrust their lives to time and chance. They usually do not have a passion to actualize any specific goal.They float with the life and barely get by. This type of people are the worst set of people.

We have listed typical species of Man. 

Now you decide which kind of person you are and make a change depending on the group you fall in. The reason I suggest you make some adjustment is because life is too short to be confused about what to do, how to do it and where to go. 

Deliberate planning is required to create a change if you belong to group two to four above, to make an appreciable progress in life. 

Planning will make life cheap. So learn to plan your life and set goals that you can pursue daily until they are achieved. 

We shall discuss the components of goal setting and how to go about setting goals that are achievable in the next article with this same heading on goal setting.
