The value of life from the viewpoint of animal lovers and caretakers of nature.

The Value Of Life In Any Organization Of People

For the lovers of animals, the value of life goes beyond the need to respect human rights. We exist not just to preserve human life but also to avoid bringing animals into extinction. There was a time when the Chinese killed or tortured bears in order to get their fur. Deer hunters and bird hunters would target these animals just for the fun of shooting them down. We realize today that mankind should not allow people to butcher just any animal flying or roaming around the earth, because these animals are having problems propagating and providing the balance of the ecosystem. Unlike the chickens that humans raise in order to increase food supply, or pigs and cows that are raised in farms for more production of meat, many other animals have become close to their extinction, even while man is trying to keep them alive. If we check the skies for the variety of birds that fly, rarely can we find Eagles or Falcons or Cranes. Through time, the environment has changed and has become hostile to their survival. Urban development eliminated the trees where a variety of birds should be living, forcing them to find far away forests to live in. What are left in the places where people reside are pets such as dogs, cats, frogs, and rats. In places where there are less human beings populating a place, the beauty of nature can still be seen in the wider variety of animals that fly or move freely on the earth.

It is sad to say that even while the educated group of citizens have enacted laws for the protection of dogs, for example, there are still people who kill dogs and satisfy their appetite with dog meat during their wine drinking occasions. In contrast, those who know the value of dogs living with us, want to raise dogs to guard their shelters against thieves or to forwarn homeowners about the presence of suspicious characters. Dogs can be trained to sniff bombs and help prevent destruction of properties. Doctors have recommended pets, specially dogs, to keep a person less tense and more calm, because dealing with dogs can give the owner a constant reminder about life being too short. Pets remind us about the need to keep life simple.

The survival of man as well as animals is also being threatened by deforestation in many countries. In our country, the Philippines, it resulted in loss of human lives following landslides that buried homes, and floods that could have been prevented by adequate root systems of trees capable of holding water instead of letting too much water flow down from the mountains. A denuded piece of land not only means loss of animals living in it. That land becomes a source of mudflows if it is elevated; lifeless and worthless whenever it is too dry.
