Heroes Everywhere: The Exercise
This is the final part of the Heroes Everywhere story. It provides practical exercises for you to take control of your life and move forward to get what you want.
Do you focus on what is going well or is your attention drawn to all the negative aspects of your life. Does this sound like you–we have no money; my kids are driving me nuts; I hate my job; the traffic is horrible; I’m too busy; my boss is a loser; I’m too fat; I need a new car; things would be better if I were married, single, divorced, I’ll be happy when the weekend gets here and so on?
Over the next 24 hours listen to the conversation that goes on in your head as you go about the business of your day. At the end of the 24 hours, analyze your thoughts—are they mostly positive or negative? Are you focused on all the difficulties in your life or on all the successes?
Your self-talk is one place that you can completely and quickly take control of your life and your thinking. The first thing that has to happen is that you must actually become aware of these conversations and the quality of your thoughts.
Have you ever had the television on while you were engaged in another activity? The visual images are important for the story to have impact but you can pretty much tell what’s going on by the conversation. So it is with your life. Every day you are running a tape in your head. Is it time to change the quality of the tape? Are you happy with the results that you are getting? If not, then this is one place that you can look for answers. Change the quality of the internal conversation.
I remember a movie from my childhood that advocated looking at life through the “glad game.” Every situation was analyzed until something was found to be of value, to be positive.
Are you engaging in the glad or the sad game? You can’t stop the conversation that goes on in your head; it has taken place every day of your life since birth. Isn’t it time that you take control of your internal dialogue and use it to your advantage—to create the things you want, the type of life you desire? Isn’t it time that you begin to talk to yourself on purpose? Isn’t it time to talk to yourself so that you can consistently produce positive results in your life and evidence of your potential?
This technique brings the hope that your life can change. This technique allows you daily to take charge of your thinking and begin to produce the results that more closely match the potential locked deep inside you. It’s time to unleash that potential for the greater good and in so doing, create a better life; a more fulfilling life for yourself. Enjoy discovering the greatness inside you and bringing it forth for all of us to see.
