Imagine Imagination

Discussing the effects and contribution of imagination to the society.

Imagination- n. the act or power of producing images in the mind if things not actually present to the senses

(from the “The New International Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary of the English Language)

Honestly, how many times have you opened your dictionary to search for the word imagination? That word, for us, became too familiar that there was already no point for us to know more about it. Imagination is a tool that we utilize to think of a phenomena or a situation, but which we haven’t often talked and thought about. We merely use it, but we haven’t pondered its significance in our daily lives, maybe mainly because we are too occupied to imagine imagination. Now, it’s time for imagination to be imagined.

Reality is connected with imagination. Reality may go along with imagination, or it may subvert it. The thing we imagine today, whether appropriate or not, will eventually become a reality tomorrow. Example, you imagined that someday, you will own a palace. That “someday” that you have imagined will be real, but the palace is not assured to become real. Say, the “tomorrow” that we imagine today will eventually become the “today” tomorrow. Say, typing this article was what I imagined a while ago, but now it’s already proven to be reality. The point is, in imagination, there are elements of the reality. But as common sense dictates, not all imaginations will happen to be real.

It’s fair to tag imagination as awesome, spectacular. With it, we can construct a world of our own. We can travel and visit distant places even by not moving an inch. We can dance in the meadows, filled with refreshing green grasses, colorful flowers and fresh air. We can revisit the past while staying in the present times. We can let things the way we want them to be. We can meet anyone that we want to meet. We can meet Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in an instant. We can have our dream house and lot. We can have all the wealth of Bill Gates with no sweat. Now, aren’t those awesome? Maybe awesome isn’t even the right word to use. Thanks to Mr. Imagination. We can use it for escapism. Only through imagination can we temporarily do away with life’s daily routines, where we can fantasize ourselves with a satisfying life without headache-triggering problems. This is healthy for us because we give our brain a chance to free itself with burdens and fill itself with vibrant colors of satisfaction. Often, this will encourage us to move and act hastily, because of the consolation that imagination can bring us: the fact that problems, too, will disappear so all we have to do is to give every moment our best shot to eventually achieve a taste of the happiness that we imagined.
