Keeping an Achievements Diary

Attain more with an achievements diary.

“Winners compare their achievement with their goals, while losers compare their achievements with those of other people.” Nido Qubein

What is an Achievements Diary?

An achievements diary is a record of your achievements throughout the year. It need not be in a separate diary, just in a section of your regular diary. It lists the things that you have done throughout the year that you are proud of.

What is the purpose of an achievements diary?

At the end of the year it shows all your proud moments by date, by attainment and by number. Listing the things that you have achieved through the year means that you can reflect saying, “Boy, I achieved a lot this year.”

How is it laid out?

It’s very simple. Start with a number, then the achievement and then a date.

For instance -

1. I reached 1000 page views on Triond, on Friday, January 9th, 2009.

2. Purchased my new car on Thursday, February, 10th 2009… and so on and so forth.

Where should I put my achievements?

I choose a section of my regular diary. You can buy a separate diary for achievements but this is usually not needed, until you get used to keeping the achievement diary.

Need my achievements be grand?

No, you can achieve small things and great things. It’s the small things, like completing a term paper, with A marks, or attending school meetings, that often give the greatest satisfaction.

What are the pay-offs?

  • When you look back on what you have listed in the achievements diary, it gives you a sense of deep satisfaction
  • It helps you feel that you have really attained something with your life and a sense of accomplishment
  • It shows outcomes to your dreams that give you hope. It is a record of your efforts and makes you feel stronger, happier and that your life is worthwhile. A great way to banish depression.

    Hi, James, how are you?
I have a similar venture, but it’s more of an update on my reading habits. Thanks for the suggestion, I think I’ll start one tonight.

I love this article! Not only will the Achievement Diary keep me on task, and give me something to reflect back on, but it also might just inspire my goals into fruition “magically.”

Years ago, I made a “100 Things” list. You know the sort, the top 100 things I’d like to do in my lifetime. It’s amazing to go back & see how many have actually happened. Of course, there are still those “larger than life” ideas that have yet to occur, but there’s still time.
