Keeping Your Life in Balance
A simple and down to earth approach to create and maintain the balance you need in your life.
Have you ever wondered why you feel unhappy without knowing the real reason? Do you sometimes wish that your circumstances were different? Are you tired of your daily routine? If your answer to any of these questions is YES, don’t worry. You’re not alone.
We all feel stressed at certain points in our lives. The sources of stress normally vary from one person to another, and even for the same person, he/she may or may not feel stressed by the same thing at different stages of his/her life.
Here are five simple techniques that would help you keep your life in balance.
Pleasant Start
It is very important to start your day with something inspirational that will set the tone for that day. Ask yourself; what makes you in the right mood? The inspirational activities are very individualist and their list is endless. The list may include:
● Listening to light relaxing music
● Small chat with the spouse or kids
● Reading motivational quotes
● Praying and meditation
● Others..
Clear Priorities
Priorities are about what is really important to you in your life. There is no a set standard to one’s priorities. They are simply defined by answering the simple question: what makes a difference in my life. This could be your work, family, new project, losing weight or going into vacation. For example, spending quality time with your children during the weekend is more important than working overtime for some extra money. If you believe that such an extra money will make you and your family happier, then you are mistaken. Based on your own priorities, you will be able to decide what you are going to do.
The key issue here is that you should be able to set clear priorities for your life as a whole. The more important thing is that you should be happy with the priorities you have selected.
Weekly Entertainment
The week is the smallest complete unit of time. Connecting weeks together without a real break is the worst thing you can do to yourself. The value of such a weekly break is that it allows you to recharge your battery. As for “entertainment”, many people associate that word with extraordinary activities, big parties or exciting extravaganza. In fact, we can still entertain ourselves without engaging in these large schemes. Quality time with the family, walking, going to the beach, watching a good movie, putting the children into bed early to enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner with your spouse, reading an interesting book or article are all valuable forms of entertainment.
Healthy Life Style
It is unfortunate that the modern fast paced life with all the technological advances is a true barrier to a healthy life style. Many people work 12-14 hours a day, eat junk food and don’t sleep well. We are daily exposed to an overload of information coming from the satellite channels, internet and mobile phones. That volume of information is really hard for the human brain to process. In short, we have more than what we need and in reality we have nothing.
The healthy life style is about the true respect to the human nature. So, to maintain that balance, go back to basics. Enjoy the nice meals and sleep well. Finally, work to live and never live to work.
Positive Attitude
According to Maya Angelou, “if you don’t like something, change it. If you cannot change it, change your attitude”. This is a great approach to maintaining a positive attitude all the time. If you look around yourself, you will find many things that are within your control while others are not. So, instead of whining and complaining, you better start by asking yourself: “Can I change the situation or is it beyond my control?” However, you should first pinpoint what are unhappy with in that situation. In other words, what exactly you want to change?
For example, you cannot change your boss, simply because you cannot change people. Changing your department or even company is the most effective way to change your boss.
Having a positive attitude is a decision that you can make. So, you have the power to make that decision or not.
