Life of Hobo

I decided i’d write up a little something on how a hobo lives.

What is a hobo exactly? Well a hobo is a person who does not own a home, therefore making him homeless. They usually tend to have beards (if male), and were old ripped clothes. You’ll usually find the majority of hobo’s in your neighbourhood park, subway, or train station. A lot of hobo’s play an instrument of some sort for pedestrians walking buy, hoping they will give them money. This act of playing an instrument is called "busking". Some people will think that this is cruel, and making fun of hobo’s, but I don’t think so. For one day, I plan on being a hobo, and right now i’m just letting the general public know about this style of life.

Living Quarters

Well, a hobo does his best to live in the cleanest, dryest, warmest place he can. The majority of hobo’s will live in either a cardboard box, a slide tunnel at a park, old broken car, or try stay in a subway station.

The Cardbaord Box

A lot of hobo’s are living in cardboard boxes today. They are idealy the best place for a hobo to live. They keep the cold out, light rain cannot enter, and it’s a fairly private choice of living quarters.

I personally give the cardboard box 6/10 for living quarters.

-When it rains hard, the top will collapse

-Can be easily stolen

-Not very Sturdy

The Slide Tunnel

Some hobo’s prefer to live in a slide tunnel. It keeps all the rain and condensation out, in the middle it can be fairly warm, and they’re is no possible way of anyone trying to steal it.

I have to give the tunnel a 8/10

-Little kids awake you in the morning

-Can’t leave anything there durring the day

Broken Car

The broken car is one of the best places to live in if you’re a hobo. It keeps all rain out (if has a good roof), can be warm (if there is windows), it’s very private, and you can leave anything in it durring the day if you have a key for it.

I give the broken car a 9/10

-Possiblity of it being broken into

-No way to move it

Subway Station

The subway station isn’t the best place for a hobo to try to live in. It’s not very private, your stuff would be stolen instantly, and you’d be kicked out within no time.

I give the subway station a 0/10

-Common, anyone can do better than that.

The Work of a Hobo

A lot of people think hobo’s are lazy, they just sit around and do nothing. Well they dont know S%*!. Sure some hobo’s do nothing, but a lot of them are very active. Many are buskers (also known as street performers), some are pan handlers, and some are drug dealers.

Busking

Busking is basically playing an instrument on the street for pedestrians walking by. This method is very usefull for money. The average busker can make around 3 dollars an hour.

Pan Handling

Pan handling is what most people think all hobo’s do. It’s asking people for money. This method works quite well if you can pull it off good. The only down side is that it’s illegal in most places.

Drug Dealing

Drug dealing is the most illegal thing a hobo can do. It’s very dangerous. This method can work well if you are smart enough. I do not recommend this to anyone.

Clearly this article comes from an uneducated twit. Homelessness is nothing to glamourize, yet nothing to hang your head in shame of either. since january of 2007 my son(age 2) and I have been what I prefer to call nomadic. The term Homeless brings about the stereotype of junkie, alcholic, lazy and mental handicaped. This is not so, I am just a disabled mother who can not work because of reasons beyond my control. I also attend college full time with online classes. It is no easy feat. Your comment that you plan to be a”hobo” one day; disgusts me. My son spent his first birthday in a shelter, I would do anything to change that.I guess this is just another example of free speach being used in ignorance.
